Intimate yet political monologue

 Bernardo Dugin writes, performs and conceptualizes “Hétero Sigilo”, premiering March 6 at Teatro Laura Alvim. Directed by João Fonseca, it explores silence, social performance and psychological toll of heteronormativity.

 The play stems from a 2023 homophobic attack on Dugin and his partner during a seventh-day mass in Nova Friburgo. The priest faces charges for qualified racism; the Rio MP seeks collective moral damages for LGBTQIAPN+ community.

From disguise to belonging

 Dugin recounts years hiding behind a self-created hetero persona for survival. In addition, he unveils societal demands for pretense and envisions paths toward authentic self-acceptance.

 “Violence doesn’t start with the punch; it starts with the silence society forces us to keep,” states Dugin. Thus, the piece blends personal intimacy with sharp social critique.

Transmedia project goes viral

 Before the stage, “Hétero Sigilo” launched as “Sigilo Box” installation at São Paulo Pride, collecting anonymous stories. Its Instagram @hetero.sigilo24 garnered nearly 5 million views, satirizing daily closet experiences.

 Federico Puppi creates original score and music direction. João Fonseca, behind hits like “Cazuza” and “My Mom is a Piece”, calls it intimate yet profoundly political.

 Bernardo Dugin leads Grupo TACA and stars in Globo/Record productions and musicals. João Fonseca boasts over 80 shows, Shell, Bibi Ferreira and Cesgranrio awards for iconic direction.
